I met Walker at a Hotel in Wembley He was there for the motor racing event that was being held at the stadium just before Xmas. He was sat alone eating his dinner as christmas revellers partied around him. He was moved to a quieter spot when people started pestering him for autographs but I later bumped into him in the gents. We passed tbe time of day and he admitted he maybe should of stayed in his room for dinner but wished me a merry Xmas. Seemed a nice fella.

For me F1 was Walker, Hill, Schumacher, Prost, Senna, Alesi, Berger etc.
All else since has been a pale imitation.
RIP Murray.

Thought he died years back. On the rare occasion I watched F1 I found him annoying. The vast majority (not all) of people I know who like motor racing are fucking dicks.

Even his commentary with Nigel Mansell and Alexander Armstrong ( from pointless) racing on a Scalextric sound exciting. RIP Mr Walker.

I wish he was still alive and motor "sport" had died instead.

Never been a fan of F1 and motor sport in general but Murray was an icon of sports commentary.
His epiosode of Desert Island Discs is worth a listen.

Iron Duke 10:43 Sat Mar 13 Exactly what i was saying to the Mrs a couple of hours ago, with the addition of Richie Benaud, David Coleman and Dan Maskell. Is Tony Gubba still going?!

Agree with all those.
Bill McLaren, John Arlott and Richie Benaud, too. I'd add Den Meskell, too, but tennis is shit and he was a posh cunt who got on my tits..

Indeed. I would probably rank Barry Davies in this, and he may be the last left?

Sad news indeed. A legend in his profession. His time commentating with James Hunt along side him, brilliant. R. I. P Murray Walker.

He was one of the greatest commentators. One of those synonymous with the sport that they commentate on, like Peter Alliss, Syd Waddell, Ted Lowe, Harry Carpenter, Brian Moore.

Almost made F1 interesting. You have to be a supreme broadcaster to do that. RIP Sir
